The X-ray Remnant of SN1987A

چکیده
We present high resolution Chandra observations of the remnant of SN1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The high angular resolution of the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) permits us to resolve the X-ray remnant. We find that the remnant is shell-like in morphology, with X-ray peaks associated with some of the optical hot spots seen in HST images. The X-ray light curve has departed from the linear flux increase observed by ROSAT, with a 0.5-2.0 keV luminosity of 1.5 × 10 erg/s in January 2000. We set an upper limit of 2.3×10 ergs/s on the luminosity of any embedded central source (0.5 2 keV). We also present a high resolution spectrum, showing that the X-ray emission is thermal in origin and is dominated by highly ionized species of O, Ne, Mg, and Si.

Discovery of an Ultra-fast X-ray Pulsar in the Supernova Remnant N157B
We present the serendipitous discovery of 16 ms pulsed X-ray emission from the Crab-like supernova remnant N157B in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This is the fastest spinning pulsar associated with a supernova remnant (SNR). Observations with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE), centered on the field containing SN1987A, reveal an X-ray pulsar with a narrow pulse profile. Archival ASCA X-ray da...
متن کاملSupernova 2008d: a Repetition of Supernova 1987a in a Binary
The Supernova 2008D is similar to that of SN 1987Awithout the H-envelope. Soderberg et al. (2008) reported the serendipitous discovery of the SN2008D at the time of the explosion, accompanied by an X-ray outburst XRF080109. The central remnant, which we believe to be the black-hole (BH) central engine in the Blandford-Znajek mechanism, is estimated, on the basis of the 7% Ni production, to have...
متن کاملCould the compact remnant of SN 1987 A be a quark star ?
The standard model for Type II supernovae explosion, confirmed by the detection of the neutrinos emitted during the supernova explosion, predicts the formation of a compact object, usually assumed to be a neutron star. However, the lack of the detection of a neutron star or pulsar formed in the SN 1987A still remains an unsolved mystery. In this paper we suggest that the newly formed neutron st...
متن کاملOSSE OBSERVATIONS OF 57Co IN SN1987A
The Oriented Scintillation Spectrometer Experiment (OSSE) on the COMPTON Gamma Ray Observatory has observed SN1987A for two 2-week periods during the first nine months of the mission. Evidence for gamma-ray line and continuum emission from 57Co is observed with an intensity of about 10-4 gamma-cm-2-s-1. This photon flux between 50 and 136 keV is demonstrated by Monte Carlo calculations to be in...
متن کاملImaging observations of SN1987A at gammaray energies
The Caltech imaging q-ray telescope was launched by balloon from Alice Springs, NT, Australia for observations of SN1987A during the period 18.80-18.87 November 1987 UT. The preliminary results presented here are derived from 8200 seconds of instrument livetime on the supernova and 2500 seconds on the Crab Nebula and pulsar at a float altitude of 37 kin. We have obtained the first images of the...
